KELVON Morris, the PNM’s candidate for Black Rock/Whim/Spring Garden in the January 25 THA election, wants the electoral district to be one of the most vibrant in Tobago.

Speaking to reporters on Monday after filing his nomination papers at $2 Montessori Drive, Glen Road, an upbeat Morris said he is hoping to capitalise on the area’s cultural assets to boost its tourism.

He said the natural assets in Les Coteaux, Courland and Black Rock can contribute significantly to developing a strong tourism product in the electoral district.

Morris said he plans to use the services of Pan Trinbago president and Katzenjammers leader Beverly Ramsey-Moore to achieve this objective. The candidate said residents can also look forward to what he called a Tobago Street Beat Festival.

“We are going to have a vibrant and energetic district going forward.” Promising to be a visible and accessible representative, if elected, Morris is already establishing a hotline to stay connected to the people. “We want to serve the people in a true and genuine way.”

He said young people can look forward to the establishment of a youth empowerment skills bank to enhance their employability. Morris added a youth development centre at Whim and other infrastructural projects are also on the drawing board. He said outgoing representative Kelvin Charles and other stalwarts in the area are supporting him

Morris’ mother, Pearl Samuel, said she is extremely proud of her son and is confident he will win the seat. Morris is being challenged by independent candidate Anthony Hector and the Progressive Democratic Patriots’ Abby Taylor.
