Deyal leads Pollard XI to three-wicket win

MARK Deyal had a good all-round performance as he led the Keiron Pollard XI to a three-wicket win over the Yannic Cariah XI on Monday, in a TT Red Force trial match at the National Cricket Centre, Balmain, Couva.

The Cariah XI, who won the toss and decided to bat first, were dismissed for 195 in 45.5 overs. The Pollard XI, in response, reached 196/7 with 5.3 overs remaining.

Kirstan Kallicharan top-scored for the Cariah XI with 57, which came off 77 balls and featured seven fours and a six. Kallicharan’s teammate for the victorious West Indies’ team at the 2016 ICC World Cup, Jyd Goolie, contributed 54 (67 balls, one four and four sixes).

The only other batsmen to reach double figures were opener Tion Webster (25) and wicketkeeper/batsman Joshua Da Silva (20).

Veteran leg-spinner Imran Khan was the chief destroyer for the Pollard XI with four wickets for 40 runs. Evergreen pace bowler Rayad Emrit took two wickets for 22 runs and Deyal, with his leg-breaks, collected 2/34.

Deyal and wicketkeeper/batsman Steven Katwaroo featured in a vital sixth wicket stand of 75, after the Pollard XI were struggling at 82/5.

The left-handed Deyal hit 57 (45 deliveries, seven fours and a six) and Katwaroo had an unbeaten 36 (47 deliveries, four fours). Opener Amir Jangoo contributed 31 and Pollard 22.

Left-arm spinner Khary Pierre claimed 3/47 and leg-spinner Cariah 2/35.
