THE police are investigating the apparent disappearance of cash estimated at $1.3 million from a bank over the long weekend, a police source told Newsday on Sunday.

The source said the sum was found missing on Saturday when the manager of the RBC branch at Maraval opened the bank. “She found both ATMs had been tampered with, and $1.3 million which had been stacked in them for the long weekend was missing.”

Bank staff reported it to  St Clair police.

The source said the disappearance of the money happened sometime between between Thursday evening when the bank was closed and Saturday morning, when it was scheduled to reopen for business. Newsday understands the police are interviewing bank staff and are also poring over video footage from the bank’s CCTV cameras.

The police have made no arrests yet.
