Carnival 2021 has been cancelled, but many artistes are not allowing that to prevent them from releasing new music. Marvin “Swappi” Davis is among them.

He released God Is Ah Trini on December 26 last year. The song has received 39,000 views on YouTube so far.

Davis wrote it, along with Johann "Madman Johann" Seaton and Seumas "Azaryah "(Flipo) Callender, and it was produced by Madman Johann and mixed by Kenny Phillips.

“The whole concept came about from Johann. He was like, ‘We don’t need to go to the Party Start and the Jumbie Head and thing.

“‘What is taking place in this country right now and the rest of the world, people need some kind of hope. You need to sing something with substance and resilience.’”

Swappi said it was a bit challenging, putting the song’s concept together: “The lyrics and that kind of thing because this is something I have never done in my career before. This is something that I’ve done for the very first time, singing something that is patriotic and for the people."

On the other hand, “Put me to sing a party song now and I will give you that within ten minutes.”

This song took him about a month, going back and forth between himself, the writers and the producer.

“God is a Trini is something we have been saying forever...This is our phrase, our slang...we have been using forever. Hurricane? Flood? Storm? What do we say? God is a Trini.”

He added that it is a reminder and the song can be interpreted by people in many different ways.

He said he hopes to participate in all virtual events hosted this year.

“If I can get all, I will be in every single one. Any one I can get, I will be in. It is about providing service and we as service providers, we don’t hesitate to provide service to the people,” he said with a laugh.
