Police nab 5 for store break-in on Charlotte Street

FOUR women and a man were arrested by police in Port of Spain on Thursday after they were found hiding in a variety store during a break-in.

In a release on Friday, police said at about 3.45 am on Thursday, officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force were on mobile patrol in the Besson Street police district when they got a call of a break-in at a variety store on the corner of Queen and Charlotte Streets.

When they got to the store, they saw several items scattered at the front of the premises. The front gate of the store was partially open and voices were heard coming from inside.

After calling for assistance, the police did a complete search of the store and two women, age 38 and 29, were found hiding on the eastern side of the store. They were arrested. Police said they received information which led them to a 29-year-old woman who was arrested at the corner of Charlotte Street and Independence Square.

They then went to an apartment on Nelson Street where they arrested a 23-year-old woman. A 24-year-old man was also arrested on Nelson Street in connection with the break-in.

The police said the suspects were found to be in possession of several items which were believed to be merchandise taken from the store.

The five were taken to the Central Police Station and PC Chinpire of the CID front office is continuing enquiries.
