Police: Expect road exercises nationwide

Police are advising drivers that there will be an increase in road policing activities across the country in the coming days.
Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith has instructed all divisional traffic and highway patrol units to monitor driving under the influence and enforce speed limits.
The aim is to prevent loss of life or injury due to unsafe and irresponsible road usage, a police release said on Thursday.
The release said Griffith has also instructed police to continue enforcing rules on the illegal use of fireworks and the covid19 Public Health Regulations to ensure public safety over the New Year period.
Road safety project co-ordinator Sgt Brent Batson is appealing to drivers to celebrate the New Year safely and responsibly by adhering to road traffic regulations.
The release quoted Batson as saying, "We will be out there doing what we can to help save lives and keep families together.
"But drivers and passengers need to do their part by wearing their seatbelts and face masks, obeying speed limits and keeping alert."
Batson said ACP Specialised Support Joanne Archie, and Snr Supt (Traffic and Highway Patrol Branch) Wayne Mystar have told all highway patrols to use their breathalysers and be ready to charge drunk drivers.
He urged drivers to designate a driver if they intend to drink alcohol. He warned if they breach the laws, they may be spending their New Year’s Day in a police holding cell instead of with their families.
"It’s your choice," he said.
