Funeral of electrocuted Palo Seco man on Saturday

DALE Williams had plans to spend time with his family at New Grant, on the outskirts of Princes Town, on New Year’s Day.

Instead, his funeral is scheduled for Saturday at the family’s home at McLean Street.

The 34-year-old Palo Seco resident was electrocuted at his home on Boxing Day when he touched a live electrical cable.

"He did not come home (New Grant) for the past few years. He promised to visit on Friday and looked at what happened," said a female relative, who requested anonymity.

Hours after Williams died, Heritage Petroleum issued a media statement saying he came into contact with a live cable which was illegally connected to the company’s power supply at Rifle Range Road.

The relative said Williams had worked as a security guard and lived at the house with his common-law wife for the past nine years. The relative assured that Williams was the person who made the illegal connection.

The relative renewed calls for a thorough investigation, saying the family has been getting conflicting reports.

The family heard that he was home alone sleeping, when someone called him to remove the wire. Unknown to Williams, the man who called him had cut through the wire while cutting the yard, people told the family.

"The Williams family is not after money or anything like that. We want closure. The story keeps changing, and we were not there. He is not a five-year-old child to just pick up a live wire," the relative told Newsday.

"We want some answers, and we want Dale to rest in peace."

An autopsy on Wednesday at the mortuary of the San Fernando General Hospital confirmed Williams was electrocuted.

His body is expected to be taken to the Monkey Town (Third Branch) cemetery for burial after the funeral on Saturday.

Santa Flora police are investigating.
