The Public Defenders Department has adopted the La Horquetta South Government Primary School and intends to provide mentorship and contribute in other ways to develop the students.

On Monday, the department donated five Amazon Fire HD tablets to help students who do not have internet connectivity to take part in online classes.

Schools were ordered shut in March as part of the measures adopted by the Ministry of Health to prevent the spread of covid19, and many students have been participating in online classes from their homes.

"We recognise as a department that we have the ability to influence and shape young minds towards a better future, so this is our first small step to that achievement," chief public defender Hasine Shaikh said at the ceremony.
