A 30-year-old Barataria man was arrested and charged for the unlicensed sale of fireworks on Tuesday evening.

Police said officers saw the man selling the fireworks at a stall near his home on Third Avenue.

They asked the man if he had a licence to sell them and he admitted he did not.

He was arrested and charged. He appeared virtually before a Port of Spain magistrate on Wednesday, when he pleaded guilty and was put on a bond.

A police media release on Tuesday reported that officers would be taking a "zero-tolerance" approach to the unauthorised sale and use of fireworks during the holiday season.

Police said two other men, 23 and 38, were arrested for the possession of marijuana during the same exercise.

The exercise was led by Snr Supt Maharaj, Sgts Ramsingh, Davidson and Mitchell and Cpl Dill. Charges were laid by PCs Quinlan, Blesdale and Dwarika.
