Under 20 new covid19 cases for 6th straight day

The Ministry of Health, in its 4 pm update on Tuesday, reported 12 new covid19 cases, its sixth consecutive day of reporting less than 20 new cases per day.

On Monday there were three new cases, on Sunday the country recorded eight new cases, seven on Boxing Day, eight on Christmas Day and 18 on Christmas Eve.

The last deaths were recorded on December 21 when two patients with pre-existing conditions took the covid19 death toll from 123 to 125.

As of Tuesday, Trinidad and Tobago had recorded 7,127 covid19 cases of which 407 were still active. So far, 6,595 patients have recovered.

Of the active cases, 30 are hospitalised, 41 are in step-down facilities and 324 remain in home-self isolation including 37 in the care of the prison system.

The release also said 133 people were in state quarantine.

In total, 72,142 samples have been sent to the Caribbean Public Health Agency, the Tobago Regional Health Authority, UWI and other local testing sites.
