CWI to announce squad for Bangladesh tour on Tuesday
THE West Indies squad for the forthcoming tour of Bangladesh is expected to be named on Tuesday.
The squad was supposed to be announced last week for the tour, in which the teams will play three One-Day Internationals and two Tests from January 20 to February 15.
In a WhatsApp message to Newsday on Monday, Cricket West Indies (CWI) CEO Johnny Grave said, “We plan on announcing the squads tomorrow.”
West Indies are expected to arrive in Bangladesh in January 10. The tour includes a 50-over warm-up match before the ODI series and a four-day practice match before the Test series bowls off.
A CWI media release on December 15, said, “The board of directors of (CWI has approved in principle the tour of Bangladesh, subject to the finalisation of the medical and logistical details within the tour’s memorandum of understanding.”
It said the approval in principle was given after a recommendation from CWI’s Medical Advisory Committee, which had got a detailed report from a pre-tour visit to Bangladesh by CWI director and member of the CWI and ICC MAC Dr Akshai Mansingh and security manager Paul Slowe.
The regional team will be hoping for more success on this tour after the recent tour of New Zealand ended without a victory. West Indies suffered a 2-0 series defeat in the three-match T20 series after the final match was abandoned because of rain. The two-match Test series was just as one-sided, as West Indies lost both matches by an innings.
