Ammo found, women arrested in separate police exercises

A small arsenal of ammunition was found by Western Division police officers on Saturday.

Police said they were on an anti-crime exercises co-ordinated by Snr Supt Kelvern Thompson and other officers of the Western Division which included inspectors Bruno and Grant.
Police went to a bushy area at Upper La Puerta, Diego Martin when they found 2,601 rounds of assorted ammunition.

Police counted the ammunition and found 1,613 rounds of 7.62 ammo, 656 rounds of 9mm ammo and 332 rounds of .223 ammunition. In a separate incident, two women were arrested and a quantity of cocaine seized during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Central Division.

Officers of the Couva Criminal Investigations Department and Central Division Task Force got information that led them to stop a vehicle near Exchange Lots Traffic Lights.
When they searched the vehicle they found four bags containing a total of 118 grams of cocaine.

Two women of Mon Plasir, who were in the car at the time, were arrested and charged for possession of the substance.
They are expected to appear before a Couva Magistrate on Monday.

In a third incident, two Venezuelans were arrested and a shotgun with two rounds of 12-gauge cartridges seized on Saturday.
Police said, at around 9 pm, officers who were on an exercise on David Toby Road, Chin Chin, Cunupial, stopped a white Nissan B12.
Police searched the car and found the shotgun in the back seat.
