Police have charged a Laventille man for the murder of a Jamaican who was shot on the Brian Lara Promenade, Port of Spain, ten days ago.

The suspect, Kadeem "Circles" Williams, of Tilbury Street, is expected to appear virtually before Port of Spain magistrate on Monday, according to a release from the police.

The victim, Neil Johnson, was shot on December 15, opposite New City Mall and died the following day at hospital.

Homicide investigators received instructions by Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard SC on Christmas Day to charge the suspect who was arrested moments after the shooting incident by officers on patrol.

Police allegedly seized a loaded gun from the suspect.

Johnson, 46, originally from May Pen, Clarendon, Jamaica, was sitting with another man on the promenade, shortly after midnight when he was shot during an apparent robbery.

Williams was charged by WPC Jules of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region 1.
