Offshore workers comprise 30 of 47 new covid19 cases

Thirty of the 47 newly reported covid19 cases are among workers on the offshore Perenco rig, while another patient was recently repatriated.

At Wednesday’s media conference, Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh said the rigs were being sanitised after a recent outbreak.

The number of deaths remains at 125. The cases were detected in samples taken between December 20 and 22.

There are now 451 active cases, up from Tuesday’s figure of 411.

The total number of cases since March is 7,071, with Tuesday’s figure having been 7,024.

There are 6,495 recovered cases, up from Tuesday’s figure of 6,488.

Twenty-five people are in hospital, one up from Tuesday’s 24. There are 51 patients in step-down facilities and 438 patients in state quarantine facilities. Tuesday’s figures were 39 and 476 respectively.

There are 328 people in home-self isolation, of whom 37 are in the prison system.

The number of tests done at public and private facilities stands at 70,457, with 30,951 being done at private health facilities.
