Historian Angelo Bissessarsingh's mother dies

CARMEN Bissessarsingh, 58, the mother of deceased historian and author Angelo Bissessarsingh, died on Saturday.

In a post on Angelo Bissessarsingh's Virtual Museum of TT Facebook page on Sunday, Carmen's sister-in-law Patricia Bissessar said, "It is with deep grief in my heart that I wish to inform members  that Angelo's mom Carmen Bissessarsingh passed away last night at the New San Fernando Teaching Hospital."

She thanked the team of doctors and nurses of Ward 13 at the hospital for their "excellent medical care of Carmen during the last two weeks." Bissessar said, "Carmen, my beloved sister-in-law is now reunited with her beloved son Angelo somewhere in the great beyond."

She appealed to members of the public to respect the family's privacy at this time. Bissessar added that due to the covid19 pandemic, the family will not be having a wake or receiving visitors. She also said only family members will be attending Carmen's funeral next week.

Speaking briefly to Newsday on Sunday, Bissessar indicated that funeral arrangements are still to be made. She said Carmen's children, Carmelita and Mario were at her bedside when she died. Carmen is also survived by her husband Rudolph, 63.

Angelo, whose books included A Walk Back in Time: Snapshots of the History of TT, Virtual Glimpses into the Past and, Walking with the Ancestors, died on February 2, 2017, at age 34. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2015.
