Santa Cruz woman on bail for stabbing husband
A 33-YEAR-OLD woman was granted $60,000 bail with a surety by a Port of Spain magistrate before whom she appeared virtually on a charge of maliciously wounding her common-law husband.
A police press release on Thursday said Mandy Phillip of Jaggan Village, Saddle Road, Santa Cruz appeared before the magistrate on Monday and after she was granted bail, the case was adjourned to January 11.
The release said that at 11.115 pm on December 9, the victim, who is 44, was at his home when an argument broke out and he was stabbed in the back with a knife.
He ran outside and called out to his mother, who called the Emergency Health Services and the police.
PC Holder and WPC Johnson of the Santa Cruz Police Station responded and later spoke with the victim. He was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital where he received several stitches and was warded. He was released the following Friday.
The matter was referred to the Gender Based Violence Unit, North Eastern Division.
On Saturday, PC Walcott made further enquiries and charged the accused for malicious wounding. Investigations were led by acting Supt Claire Guy-Alleyne and supervised by Insp Lystra Bridglal of the Gender Based Violence Unit.
