Seeded players shine at RBC Jnr Tennis

THE top ranked players dominated proceedings on day one of the RBC Junior Tennis tournament at Trinidad Country Club in Maraval on Saturday. Round robin matches were played on the opening day, with players aiming for places in the knockout phase.

Top seeds Daniel Rahaman, Jack Brown, James Hadden, Makeda Bain, and Christiana Hills, were all victorious in their respective divisions.

Rahaman defeated Gabriel Denoon 4-1, 4-2 in the boys Under-12 singles, and Brown got past Brian Thomasos 6-5 in the boys Under-10 singles.

Hadden cruised to a 4-0, 4-2 victory over Jordell Chapman in the boys Under-14 singles.

Bain eased her way to a 6-1 win over Karissa Mohammed in the girls Under-10 singles, and Hills showed her ability with a 4-0, 4-0 win over Makayla Smith.

It was not all smooth sailing for the top ranked players as in the boys Under-10 singles second seeded Darius Rahaman lost 5-6 to Alex Sharma.

Matches continue at 9 am on Sunday with matches being held every day until Thursday.
