More than one week after the body of 18-year-old Ashanti Riley was found in a forested area in La Canoa, Santa Cruz, a 32-year-old taxi driver has been charged with her murder.

Police confirmed Luciano Quash was charged by homicide investigators on Sunday afternoon. He is expected to appear before a Port of Spain magistrate on Monday.

Newsday was told Quash was also charged with sexually penetrating a 16-year-old girl at Bagatelle Road, San Juan on March 14. That charge is also expected to be read to him when he appears in court.

Another man, 29, was released on Sunday.

Riley was last seen entering a private hire taxi after leaving her Lloyd Street, San Juan home on November 29. Her body was found five days later.

An autopsy on Wednesday last week revealed she died from sharp force wounds to the right chest and lower abdomen and blunt force trauma (from a beating) to the back of the left chest.
