ANOTHER poor batting display by the West Indies left New Zealand in control at the end of day two of the second Test match between the two teams at Wellington, on Saturday.

West Indies were reeling on 124/8 at stumps in response to New Zealand’s first innings score of 460.

Like the first Test, Jermaine Blackwood showed resistance for the West Indies with a top score of 69. The diminutive right-hander faced 92 deliveries and struck 11 fours, but the other batsmen failed to cope the New Zealand pace attack led by Kyle Jamieson.

Jamieson destroyed the West Indies batting with 5/34 in 13 overs and got ample support from fellow pacer Tim Southee who took 3/29 in 16 overs.

Earlier in the day, New Zealand added quick runs with Henry Nicholls eventually being dismissed for 174. Fast bowler Neil Wagner showed his ability with the bat with 66 not out off 42 deliveries.

The fast bowling trio of Shannon Gabriel (3/93), Alzarri Joseph (3/109) and Chemar Holder (2/110) were all among the wickets. Off spinner Roston Chase took the last two New Zealand wickets to end with 2/54.
