Living Water gives out 1,000 hampers

The Living Water Community (LWC) gave out nearly 1,000 hampers on Friday morning, continuing its aid programme for locals most affected by the covid19 pandemic.

From 6am, there was a long line of people in front of the LWC building on upper Frederick Street in Port of Spain.

The police once again supported the distribution, helping volunteers organise the lines.

The hampers are given out under strict sanitary and distancing measures. The LWC provides sinks, hand sanitiser, breakfast and water to those who have been waiting.

LWC officials told Newsday the hampers were collected with the help of individuals and companies.

They first distributed hampers on May 1. After that the programme continued every other week, but is now being done every three weeks.

“We continue to receive aid from the community, thanks to God, from good people who want to help others and especially in such difficult times that the world is going through today,” said one member.

Officials said distribution is now every three weeks and there is online registration beforehand to reduce the crowds.

"Every week we receive the supplies, we organise the bags and we make the list of people according to the number of children per family and their needs. Afterwards we call for you to come to our headquarters on the indicated day," said an official.

Since the programme began, LWC has delivered more than 10,000 hampers.
