CARIBBEAN violinists Xavier Strings will host a virtual Christmas concert, Carol of the Strings, on December 13.

The show, featuring sisters Janelle Xavier and Janine Xavier-Cross, will be streamed via their Facebook Page (@xavierstrings) and YouTube Channel (XavierStrings) at 6 pm. The band will perform at The Falls at Westmall, giving the viewing public a full Christmas experience with a backdrop of the creche, poinsettia trees and gift boxes.

They will play Christmas classics, Caribbean favourites, and parang on a variety of stringed instruments. There will be guest performances from guitarist Stefan Roach, Rico DG on the mandolin, Desi Geoffroy on maracas and the storytelling of the legendary Paul Keens-Douglas.

In a media release the sisters said, “Covid19 has changed the way we celebrate, and this Christmas is heavily affected. To keep everyone safe, we have to be socially distant from those we love, especially the elderly…We hope that this virtual concert will break those barriers and unite us here and across the globe.

“We also want to give a taste of home to our brothers and sisters who are unable to return to our blessed West Indian shores at this time. We hope that through this virtual concert, we will reach the Caribbean diaspora, bringing them that familiarity of Christmas at home in the Caribbean.”

While the concert does not have a ticket price attached, the sisters said they will be accepting contributions to meet the costs associated with putting on the production.
