POLICE found an empty 20-foot container on Thursday that was stolen from the port of Port of Spain earlier this year.

They said the container held $1.1 million worth of Conway cigarettes and was stolen in August. A month later another container was stolen which contained cigarettes of the same value.

The empty container was found in Borde Narve, Princes Town.

Police said the cigarettes are being sold on the black market and have warned businesses not to buy the ill-gotten items, or they could be charged with receiving stolen property.

The container will be taken to the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) office in Cumuto, where police to get fingerprints to assist in their investigations.

The find was made by a team from the Port of Spain CID led by Insp Forde-Jack and including Sgt St Clair, Cpl Lemo and PCs Gill, Hoyte and Ogarro.
