By-elections on January 25

ON January 25, 2021, some five local government corporations in Trinidad will hold by-elections to fill vacancies left by the election of former councillors as MPs, a statement from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) said on Wednesday.

That date will also be election day for the Tobago House of Assembly (THA.)

The OPM said since the August 10 general election, when five councillors were elected as MPs, the respective councils had held statutory meetings at which the vacancies were confirmed.

In line with the Municipal Corporations Act and the Representation of the People Act, by-election writs will be issued today under the seal of the President to fix January 4 as nomination day and January 25 as polling day.
