Road safety NGO Arrive Alive has donated 11 laptops and tablets, sponsored by BHP TT and other donors, to the children of victims of road traffic accidents.

In a handover ceremony hosted at BHP's Invaders Bay Tower, Port of Spain on Wednesday, director of Arrive Alive Sharon Inglefield said the devices were donated in the hope that they gave a “little bit of comfort,” to families who are already losing hope.

“These are families who Arrive Alive are in touch with, who give us feedback,” she said, “whether they need counselling, groceries (or) laptops and computers because the Ministry of Education has not been able to give them so far.”

One of the schools in contact with Arrive Alive also said it needed a printer (used to supply printed packages of schoolwork to students without devices).

Principal Krisendaye Ramai of Pepper Village Government Primary School received a printer for the school.

Four of the 11 students collected their devices on Wednesday. They were Zachary Chandler-Rivas, Isaiah Howard, Darrion Roopnarine, and Byron Guerra.

BHP corporate affairs adviser Sheldon Narine said, “BHP TT is committed to road safety and keeping the people of TT alive on the road and we are very happy to be partnering with Arrive Alive, the Ministry of Works and Transport and the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service over the last five years in helping to reduce the (number) of road deaths in TT.”
