THE covid19 pandemic may have cast a dark shadow around the world but it has also brought out many silver linings.

People like musicians Billy and Naomi Wong have been giving of their time and talent to help those who are less fortunate.

The couple usually performs with multiple bands, among them Alma Caribena, Los Tocadores, Los Alegres Sin Duda, Solo Para Ti and Ken and Crew. But with the restrictions of live performances, they decided to use another medium to bring a little Christmas cheer to TT.

"Because of the restrictions and the frustration brought on by the pandemic, my husband and I decided to spread a little seasonal joy through our music. We uploaded our first video to YouTube and labelled it Parang Tabanca. The feedback from the public was great and it motivated us to continue posting new videos," Naomi told Newsday.

She said while working in studio with their music producer, he encouraged them to give their duet a title.

"We came up with the name Marriage and Music given that we are married and we're both musicians. The significance is being able to do something together that we both enjoy." So far they have uploaded five videos and the series has been viewed over 30,000 times.

Wong works in the administration department at the Youth Training and Employment Partnership Programme (YTEPP) and has a special interest in the well-being of children and young people. And with the beginning of the Christmas season, they felt they could offer more than just music.

"Billy and I realised that we could also focus on other charitable causes, therefore we organised a toy drive for kids in need." She said members of the public have been very supportive.

"We chose a toy drive because we figured that given the misfortune this pandemic has brought, it would be more affordable for people wanting to donate. We hope that more contributions will be made before the end of the season."

She said donations can be addressed to Naomi Wong and dropped off at any of YTEPP'S offices, Monday to Friday between 8 am-4 pm, on or before December 18. People interested in donating can also call 683-9487.

"We plan to distribute on the weekend of December 19," she said.
