Woman held after Chinese businesswoman beaten, robbed

A BELMONT woman was arrested after police found a Chinese businesswoman inside her supermarket shortly after a robbery on Thursday morning.

A police press release stated that officers from the Emergency Response Patrol unit received a report of a robbery at a supermarket at the corner of George and Prince streets in Port of Spain.

Officers saw a group of individuals running through the Plannings and gave chase. The officers recovered a 44-inch flat screen television which was reported missing from the supermarket.

As the investigations continued, the officers returned to the supermarket and found the victim, a Chinese national, who said she was beaten and then bound. Based on additional information received, a 28-year-old woman of Upper Layan Hill in Belmont, was arrested in connection with the robbery. Investigations are continuing.
