PM, let us change our $100 notes

THE EDITOR: About two-three weeks ago, there were calls from several people for whoever is responsible to let citizens change their old $100 notes. Having three in my possession, which I found long after the unreasonable deadline, I silently supported the calls.

Since then there has been no reaction from the Government to these calls. One can only assume these high-flying officials have no intention of doing anything to ease the burden on the small man.

All they do is beg us to "tighten our belts, we're all in this together" (no, you're not). Those of us with a few notes are the ones who need it most, even as those who drive million-dollar tax-free cars sneer at us "paupers."

So I'm making yet another appeal, this time directly to the Prime Minister.

Your ministers make a big deal about giving out a few hampers. With a long face, you tell us we will get through this together. Here's an opportunity to really help. As others also pointed out, it doesn't cost you a cent, just the directive to the banks to exchange whatever money people bring in up to some reasonable limit.

Prime Minister, why does your government find it so hard to let people change their honest, hard-earned few hundred dollars?
