One death brings covid19 toll to 121

An additional covid19 death has brought the total number to 121.

The Health Ministry reported that the patient was an elderly male with pre-existing medical conditions.

The ministry’s release on Wednesday afternoon said 19 new cases had been reported over the last 24 hours from samples taken between November 29 and December 1. There are now 740 active cases.

Seven people have been discharged from public health facilities and there are 29 recovered community cases.

There are 44 people in hospital. Twenty-six are at the Couva Hospital and Multi-Training Facility, with one person in the intensive-care unit and one in the high-dependency unit. There are six patients at the Caura Hospital, two people at St Ann’s Hospital, and ten at the Scarborough Regional Hospital at the Fort, with three patients en route.

There are 26 patients in step-down facilities, 16 at the Claxton Bay Correctional Facility and ten at UWI Debe.

There are 252 people in state quarantine facilities, and 651 people in home self-isolation, 186 of whom are in the prison system.

The total number of cases since March is 6,704 of whom 5,843 have recovered.

A total of 37,075 people have been tested in the public health system.
