An application for the release and return of $656,200 in cash seized during one of the raids on the “Drugs Sou Sou” headquarters in La Horquetta was denied on Wednesday by an Arima magistrate.

A police media release said Kerron Clarke applied for the return of the cash pursuant to section 38(7) of the Proceeds of Crime Act.

At a virtual hearing, Clarke, represented by Rosario Sookdeo, and the Financial Investigations Branch, represented by legal officer Keston Abraham, both presented their submissions virtually to senior magistrate Cheron Raphael, after which Raphael dismissed the application.

Head of Investigations and Intelligence Mc Donald Jacob said during a police press conference that police seized money from Clarke’s home at Kathleen Warner Drive, La Horquetta in three exercises. The first was on August 25, when police seized $656,200, the second was on September 2, when they took $707,500 and on October 27 when police seized $6.4 million.
