Downward trend in covid19 cases

THE country's average number of new covid19 positive cases now stands at 28 per day and is optimistic that it would decline further once people adhere to the safety protocols.

Epidemiologist Dr Avery Hinds gave this update at the virtual health news conference on Wednesday. Hinds on Monday had indicated this figure to be 30. Hinds said there are currently 758 active covid cases in Trinidad and Tobago, of this figure, 29 patients are in step-down facilities and 42 are in hospital.

TT's PAHO representative Dr Eric Wheeler said 187 countries (including TT) have signed on to the COVAX facility to access a possible covid19 vaccines. Wheeler added the objective of COVAX is to end the acute phase of the pandemic by the end of 2021.

She said TT is expected to receive 280,000 doses of the vaccine in the first instance.
