Dog almost shoots man in Chaguanas

Police are investigating the circumstances in which a Coast Guard officer was shot in the head during an incident with his dog.

The 46-year-old officer was reportedly at home in Edinburgh 500, Chaguanas at about 7.20 am on Wednesday.

He got out of the shower and made a safety check of his handgun. He took the gun from the holster and put it on the night stand, but at the same time his dog jumped on him.

Because the floor was wet, the man lost his balance and grabbed the night stand. The gun went off and he was shot in the head.

His wife took him to hospital, where he was treated for a graze to the side of the head. He is in stable condition.
