Police seized $225,000 from a 34-year-old man from Production Drive, Sea Lots, on Tuesday after they stopped him for speeding on the shoulder of the Churchill Roosevelt Highway.

A police report on Tuesday said three officers from the Motorcycle Section of the Traffic and Highway Patrol branch were on patrol when they noticed the unusual behaviour of a man driving a grey Hyundai Creta.

Police stopped him on College Trace, St Augustine, heading east near UWI's south gate, after a short chase.

The release said police ticketed the man for the traffic offence of improperly overtaking on the left. Police at the scene then noticed a strong scent of marijuana coming from the car.

While searching the car, police found the money in a black bag, divided into stacks of $100 and $20 bills with rubber bands.

The man could not properly explain how he got the money. They arrested the man and took him to the St Joseph Police Station for questioning.

An investigation is continuing.
