Pan inventor Jomo Wahtuse dies

Jomo Wahtuse, the inventor of the world's largest steelpan, known as the Jomoline, died on Sunday night.

According to panonthenet.com, Wahtuse was awarded the Guinness World Record for the largest pan in the world. The website said the Jomoline was presented and measured in Port of Spain on November 12, 2010.

He was also the inventor of the JW Acoustic Electronic Venturi Pan.

A statement from the Pan in Schools Coordinating Council (PSCC) said, “It is with great sense of shock and sorrow that PSCC joins the steelpan fraternity in mourning the loss of another national treasure, Jomo Wahtuse who passed away last night (Sunday).”

It added that he dedicated his life, skills and knowledge to the elevation of the pan .

Whatuse was was an engineer.

It added that he reached out to the council with a desire to support its vision and his own, particularly in education, the science of steelpan manufacturing and youth training.

Pan Trinbago also sent condolences to Wahtuse’s family and friends, saying it mourned the passing of a pan inventor and educator.
