Chief Secretary Ancil Dennis is hopeful for a more reliable power supply after a visit to TTEC’s Cove Power Plant last Thursday.

Dennis and Secretary of Settlements, Urban Renewal and Public Utilities Clarence Jacob visited the plant to get a better understanding of its operations and possible reasons for the frequent outages across the island.

There have been numerous complaints about the power supply, particularly in Tobago East. TTUTA Tobago Officer Bradon Roberts recently told Newsday this was another challenge to the delivery of education through online classes. Business places have also expressed concern about the disruptions.

Dennis and Jacob were given a tour of the facility by plant manager Emile Baptiste. They visited the main areas, including the control room and the engine hall. Dennis was informed that while some of the outages stem from the Cove Power Plant, others occur from different areas and for various reasons.

After the tour, Dennis said he now has a deeper understanding and appreciation for the work being done at Cove. He said TTEC’s service to Tobago is a very important one and commended the workers for their dedication.

However, he stressed that the frequent power outages across Tobago are untenable. He is is looking forward to an improvement in the service from TTEC soon.
