Boy, 13, killed in Guapo after being struck by armoured truck

A 13-year-old boy was killed after he was struck by an armoured money carrier in Guapo on Monday.

Police identified the victim as Zion Roop, of Cochrane Village.

The acccident occurred at around 4 pm at the Southern Main Road in Gonzales Village, Guapo just before the Filtration Plant Road.

Eyewitnesses and the police said the boy ran across the main road and was hit by the grey truck, which has been impounded at the Guapo Police station.

Roop was taken to the Point Fortin Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

One eyewitness, who preferred to remain anonymous, told Newsday, "When I passed, I just saw his body there on the ground. There was no movement. I saw his body lying to the left side of the road.

"They put him in a vehicle and when they lifted him, still no movements really. My co-workers that were in the car ahead of me saw the mother running down the road, still hustling to pull up her pants. I saw her breaking down over him."

Newsday was also told a maxi had stopped for the child to cross the road. He was said to be wearing a blue T-shirt and khaki pants.

Police told Newsday his parents did not wish to speak to the media.
