Two held for cursing police during search for escapee

Two people are in police custody after they cursed at police officers as they searched for escapee Devon Lewis in Biche on Monday afternoon.

Police said members of the Sangre Grande CID and the Eastern Division Special Operations Unit were searching for Lewis in Cushe Trace, Biche, at around 6.30 pm when they saw him hiding behind a house.

Police chased him but he got away.

During the chase people in the area began crowding the road and cursing at the police.

Police warned them and arrested two men ages 30 and 21 for using obscene language and resisting arrest.

During the search, a police constable was attacked by five dogs in a forested area.

He fired his pistol at the dogs that ran away.

The officer was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Eastern Division police are continuing their searches for Lewis.

Lewis, 34, of Charuma Village, Biche, escaped from police custody on Sunday.
