IBIS Sports Hub to host webinar on youth health

THE IBIS Sports Hub is set to host its first sport webinar entitled Youth Health in a Digital World. The webinar will take place virtually via zoom on Saturday, from 10 am.

A media release said, “The IBIS Sports Hub recognizes the negative impact of reduced play and physical activity on children’s physical and mental health and the increased potential of this worsening in the digital world. As a result, IBIS felt it was an opportune time to educate on children’s right to participate in sport and safe spaces.”

The webinar will be moderated by former national basket-baller and current coach Kern George. It will feature presenters from the Children’s Authority of TT, Sports Medic TT, Sport for Life Canada and the Computer Forensics and Security Institute. The presenters will share information on the right of the child to play in a safe environment, the impact of physical activity on your child’s health, physical literacy - the secret to sport for life and cyber communication and safe practices for children. IBIS Sports Hub founder and International Olympic Committee (IOC) young leader Kwanieze John joined the IOC Young Leaders programme in 2019 with hopes to make a positive impact in different communities as part of her project.

John said, “The initial plan for the project was derailed and like other projects we had to pivot. In light of this, it took the form of this webinar as an initial phase of the project to be expanded in 2021 when restrictions for sport at the grassroots level have been eased.”
