A Chaguanas couple were arrested on Thursday afternoon when they bought a fridge on another person's account without his permission.

Police said the man and woman, ages 25 and 23 respectively, bought a refrigerator worth $16,000 using another man's bank account information last month from Courts Chaguanas.

The holder of the account later saw the deduction, went to the store to question it and was told someone made the purchase using his details.

Staff at the store called the Fraud Squad, who began a sting operation and called the couple back to the store on Thursday to clarify payment plans, when they were arrested.

The exercise was co-ordinated by Snr Supt Groom and investigations were supervised by Insp Samuel, both of the Fraud Squad.

ASP Dipchand of the Chaguanas CID also assisted.

Investigators said they suspected the couple were part of a ring of fraudsters who record electronic information from bank cards and reproduce it onto blank cards.
