Brathwaite hits unbeaten 183 in Windies warm-up

WEST Indies opener Kraigg Brathwaite slammed an unbeaten 183 on the opening day of the four-day practice match against New Zealand A in Queenstown, on Thursday.

West Indies are preparing for their two-match Test series against New Zealand which bowls off on Wednesday. The second match begins on December 10.

Prior to the two-match Test series the teams will square off in a three-match T20 series starting on Friday.

Brathwaite’s knock led the regional team to an impressive 353/3 at stumps on day one. The right-hander did not bat in his usual dogged style as he struck 14 fours and one six in his 262-ball knock.

Darren Bravo, who scored 135 in the first warm-up match against New Zealand A, hit 93 off 167 deliveries which included 11 fours.

After opener John Campbell fell for 45, Brathwaite and Bravo combined to put on 189 for the second wicket.

Shamarh Brooks fell for five, before Jermaine Blackwood joined Brathwaite. The pair took West Indies to the close with Brathwaite eyeing a double century and Blackwood unbeaten on 19.
