Nine days after the Division of Health, Wellness and Family Development said there was no active covid19 case in Tobago, one new case has been recorded.

A press release from the division on Wednesday said the case was reported on Tuesday.

While, no information was provided on the case, the release said this latest case brings the number of positive samples to 107.

There have been two deaths.

To date, 1,757 samples have been submitted to the Tobago Regional Health Authority (TRHA) and other local sites for testing

Secretary for the division Tracy Davidson-Celestine recently cautioned the public, reminding them of the importance of wearing their masks. She said although there was no active covid19 case Tobago was not free of the virus.

“We have been vigilant, knowing that covid19 might be hidden among us.

“We urge the public to take all the precautions seriously. We don’t want to see a surge in infections and the only way we can do this is with the public’s support. Let’s do the right thing. Where there is one there is going to be more. This virus is real and with us every day. Let’s get those masks on and covid19 out,” she said.

She added that the Tobago health services continue to build out the systems, “with a strong team, who understands the demands and rigours of this pandemic and we are prepared. The public must understand this pandemic unfolds in unpredictable ways, but individually if we do our part, we can lighten the burden covid19 brings.”
