Salim tops bike, running event in Rincon

SAMUEL Salim won two events when the Mountain Bike Race, Trail Run and Doggy Run was held, at Big O’s Ranch, Rincon, Las Cuevas, over the weekend. The event was hosted by the Rainbow Warriors Triathlon Club and covid19 guidelines were followed.

On Saturday, Salim, of Sabres Multi-Sport, claimed first place in the 9K three-lap mountain bike race in a time of 52 minutes and eight seconds (52:08). Colin De Freitas, also of Sabres, took silver in 54:23 and Jonah Camps of Giants Multi-Sport ended third in 1:12:22.

On Sunday, Salim continued his winning form as he captured the one-lap cross country run in 21:00. Doon Rampharay, of Garden of Eden, grabbed silver in 21:28 and Latasha Winford, of Garden of Eden, rounded off the top three in 31:50. In this event participants were allowed to run with their dogs.

National men’s triathlon champion Jason Costelloe of Team Beacon GNC won the 15K five-lap mountain bike event in convincing fashion in 53:58, on Saturday. Teenagers Chad Hosein and Troy Llanos, both of The Braves Racing Team, took silver and bronze respectively. Hosein stopped the clock in 1:13:32 and Llanos broke the tape in 1:27:31.

Also, on Saturday, in the junior mountain bike 6K two-lap event, Jenae-Marie Price was the lone athlete to attempt two laps. Price, 13, of Giants Multi-Sport finished in 47:30. The other three participants, who were all boys, completed one lap. Rhys Mendes, ten, completed lap one first in 21:46. Jon Michael Abraham was second after lap one after ending in 22:15 and Price was third after completing lap one in 23:00.

Xavi Hospedales of Giants was fourth in 28:41.

On Sunday, in the two-lap cross country run, Hannah Gooding, of Rainbow Warriors, won in a time of 45:31. Carlos Alexander snatched silver in 47:23 and Shirley Hazzard finished third in 1:11:56. Dogs were also allowed to compete in this event.
