Windies bowlers toil in drawn warm-up match

THE West Indies bowlers continued to toil against New Zealand A as the three-day warm-up match ended in a draw in Queenstown, on Sunday.

West Indies used the contest to prepare for their two-match Test series against New Zealand which bowls off on December 2. The second match starts on December 10.

Resuming the final day’s play on 329/6, West Indies were dismissed for 366 to earn a first innings lead of 58 runs. On day one of the match, New Zealand A scored an impressive 308/3 declared.

Nkrumah Bonner scored 24 and Shayne Moseley ended on 11 not out to help push the regional team past 350 in the first innings, but the other batsmen fell cheaply. Shane Dowrich fell for two, Joshua Da Silva scored one and Rahkeem Cornwall failed to get off the mark.

Jacob Duffy was the pick of the bowlers with 3/49 in 19 overs and Blair Tickner grabbed 2/66 in 27 overs.

In their second turn at the crease, the New Zealand A batsmen again looked comfortable in the middle closing on 124/1, a lead of 66 runs. Fast bowler Shannon Gabriel was the lone wicket taker bowling Rachin Ravindra for ten.

Will Young top scored with 64 not out off 147 deliveries with five fours and Devon Conway cracked an unbeaten 41. Gabriel ended with 1/23 in nine overs.

West Indies will face New Zealand A in another warm-up match, starting on Wednesday, at Queenstown. This time it will be a four-day match.

Before the Test series, West Indies and New Zealand will square off in a three-match T20 series, bowling off on Friday. The second match will be played on Saturday, followed by the third match on Monday.
