[UPDATED] Princes Town couple charged with ex-fireman's murder

Twenty-three-year-old Renee Mohammed and Dwayne Baldeo, 38, faced a Princes Town magistrate virtually on Friday afternoon charged with the murder of former fireman Christopher Hosein.

Hosein, 45, a businessman, who resigned from the Fire Service about ten years ago, lived at St James Street in Princes Town. There, he ran his business, Expert Fire and Safety Ltd.

The accused couple, both from Princes Town, appeared before magistrate Indira Misir-Gosine, who read the charge. Murders are indictable offences, so they were not called to enter a plea.

Attorney Subhas Panday represented Baldeo and Nazima Ali-Knox represented Mohammed. Sgt Shazeed Mohammed prosecuted. Murder is a non-bailable offence, so the magistrate remanded the two into police custody to reappear in court on December 4.

On October 28, police found Hosein’s burnt body near his burnt Kia Sorento in a gravel road off the M1 Tasker Road in the Ste Madeleine police district. People use the area as a dumping site.

Investigators said there was a rope around Hosein's neck, his hands were bound, and his eyes were covered with duct tape.

Southern Division and Homicide Bureau Region III police, among them Snr Supt Gaffar, Supt Dhillpaul and ASP Theodore-Persad visited the scene.Hours later, police detained the two suspects after receiving certain information.
