10 charged for operating illegal quarry

Seven months after police arrested ten suspects reportedly caught in the act operating an illegal quarry in Matura they appeared in court charged with a series of criminal offences.

The accused appeared before Sangre Grande magistrate Erica Baptiste-Ramkissoon virtually and the matters were adjourned to November 24.

On March 23, police officers attached to a special task force working alongside the Commissioner of State Lands geared at dismantling illegal quarry operators went to Pine Road, where they found several people allegedly operating heavy machinery.

Two excavators and a truck were among the machinery seized during the operation.

Roy Ramkissoon, Trevor De Bourgh, Daniel Edmund, Trevor Stanley, Ricky Roopnarine and Vishal Singh were charged with removing material from State land without authority; Robby Ramcharitar was charged with digging material without lawful authority and using a vehicle contrary to its registration to dig and remove material from State land without authority; Kiran Baldeosingh and Kishore Singh and Ivan Daniel were also charged with related offences by PC John Victory.
