700 register for youth entrepreneurship competition

THE National Secondary Schools Entrepreneurship Competition will seek to expose 700 participants in economic skills needed for life after the covid19 pandemic. Using an online simulation, 128 teams will compete against each other in “strategic business decision making.”

Organisers said in a media release on Wednesday the competition, now in its fourth year, is the biggest regional entrepreneurship competition of its kind. It begins on October 30 and will run for six weeks.

The competition will be hosted by Ancil “Blaze” Isaac Jr, will focus on practical education and encourage students to start their own businesses.

“This competition has become one of the most important programs in recent years for developing future leaders and entrepreneurs, and has offered some impressive facts to give us hope that the youth of today will be prepared for the immense challenges that surely lie ahead,” the release said.

The organisers said, over the past four years the competition has trained 2,500 students in practical entrepreneurial development, with 13 per cent of all participants from TT ranking in the top one per cent of all global simulation players.

“This is an incredible feat given that most simulation players come from post-secondary backgrounds, PhD levels or large corporations.”

This year’s competition will have technology-focused prizes to further support the new normal, including over $100,000 worth of Apple laptops, iPads and Samsung smartphones.

The top three teams will also be mentored by the entrepreneurs of 3Stone Ltd to help them launch their own businesses. The competition is endorsed by the Ministry of Education.
