THREE FLIGHTS bringing repatriated citizens will be coming into the country over the next week, said acting Principal Medical Officer Maryam Abdool-Richards.

At the Ministry of Health’s press briefing held virtually on Wednesday, she said the first flight will land at Piarco Airport from Miami on Thursday. On Saturday, people from New York will be repatriated and next Tuesday, TT citizens from Barbados will return, via Caribbean Airlines flights.

Richards added that people are also finding their own means of coming into the country once they are allowed back in. Between 75 and 80 people are expected to return on their own within the week.

“These people will undergo state-supervised quarantine for a period of seven days, then home quarantine, once they are well and have negative tests on day two.”

As it stands there are 113 repatriated citizens in state quarantine facilities.

Richards said the repatriation process began on March 23 and although there is an upsurge in the number of people coming into the country, they were being admitted in small numbers. Although the Ministry of National Security has a more accurate figure, Richards said roughly 800 people had been repatriated since the process started.

“But that is an underestimation, given that people are being repatriated by other means, some by vessels and chartered flights,” she added.
