$5m in marijuana destroyed in Maracas

An estimated $5 million in marijuana trees and seedlings were destroyed in a police exercise in Maracas Bay on Monday.

A police media release on Tuesday reported that officers of the North Eastern Division CID, North Eastern Division Gang Unit and Task Force led by Snr Supt Maharaj, Supts Maynard Wilson and Alexander, ASP Pariman and Sgt Bharath trekked seven miles into a forested area in Maracas where they found a marijuana plantation with 5,000 fully grown trees and 200 seedlings. All trees and seedlings were destroyed.

No one was held.

North Eastern Division police are continuing enquiries.
