THE Arima Race Club (ARC) is preparing for fans to return to horse racing at the Santa Rosa Race Track, on Saturday.

President of ARC Robert Bernard said, “Being a members club you allowed to have 50 per cent capacity.”

He added, “We are going to be in a position to accommodate that number of people if they come and with all the relevant (covid19) protocols in place.”

Bernard is excited to see fans return as it helps keep the sport afloat. “People on the track also assist in the quantum of betting…betting keeps the industry alive.” Fans have not been allowed to attend horse racing since March because of the covid19 pandemic.

The ARC’s off track betting centres in St James and Curepe will be open from Thursday.

“We have to do all the sanitization and putting all the relevant protocols and sanitization stations…that should not be a problem. That should be an easy fix.”

In his message to people who don’t abide with the covid19 protocols, Bernard said, “We are going to have people on spot ensuring that all the protocols are adhered to. That will be mask wearing and we are going to have the seats identified how close you could sit to one another.” After the entries are completed on Tuesday the start time for the races on Saturday will be determined.
