Store Bay gets ready to welcome beachgoers

Store Bay beach facility, Tobago, got a last-minute sprucing up on Monday, two days after the Prime Minister announced that beaches and coastal waters will be reopened to the public.

When Newsday visited the facility, workers from the Division of Tourism, Culture and Transportation were busy cleaning the car park, food court and beach front.

The facility’s overgrown lawn was also cut in preparation for bathers and visitors.

One female worker said: “It is time Store Bay get back to how it was. This covid really do a number on the country, boy.”

Another said Store Bay was like a “ghost town” during the past few months.

“I never thought I woulda see the day when Store Bay didn’t have people. But this was how the place was for a long time with the lockdown and all the restrictions,” she said.

She said she hoped people would adhere to the covid19 regulations while on the beach.

During Saturday’s news conference at the Scarborough Library, Dr Rowley announced beaches would be open to the public between the hours of 6 am to 6pm as the Government cautiously reopens the country’s economy.
