AN armed burglar who broke into the house of a senior policeman is in critical condition at San Fernando General Hospital after he was shot by the officer.

Police said, at about 10.30 pm on Saturday the masked man and three accomplices – who were armed with guns and knives, broke into the Union Hall, San Fernando home of the Special Reserve Police sergeant.

The men announced a hold-up and ordered the policeman and his family to lie on the ground in the living room area.
